Into Abdominal Cavity

Abdominal cavity is part of a human body or animal body that is responsible for holding the viscera. This is located just right below the thoracic cavity. It is also near the pelvic cavity. There are several organs that are included in the abdominal cavity.

These are the stomach, liver, bladder, spleen, pancreas, small and large intestine. The whole abdominal cavity is protected with a membrane called the peritoneum.

Even the kidneys that are located in the abdominal cavity are also surrounded by peritoneum. The viscera are also covered with a layer of this membrane. This layer is called the greater omentum.

Ascites is considered as a serious problem in the abdominal cavity. As we age, our appearances usually change throughout our entire body. Although we are not overweight, one of the things we notice is our abdomen changing because the muscles in them are getting weaker as well. The Abdominal cavity may have the tendency to fluid in it. As it increases, it can certainly develop in a condition known as ascites. Sometimes it is unavoidable to have fluid in the stomach especially as this is one of the effects of natural aging process. There are many causes of ascites but the most common is what you call cirrhosis. This is a chronic scarring in the liver. If you are an alcohol drinker over the years, then this could be the reason for it. Another cause of ascites is when you were infected with hepatitis C. This usually happens during blood transfusion. A tumor found in the peritoneal cavity can also result to ascites. Usually a malignancy is often detected as soon as ascites develops. A serious infection may also cause ascites. A person who may have tuberculosis may develop ascites in the future. There are certain bacteria that may be responsible for tuberculosis and this may lead to peritoneal cavity. You can associate this with other infection like fever. There are also other diseases that can attribute to ascites. Inflammation of the pancreas can cause fluid in the abdomen. Kidney failure can also detect ascites.

It will be best if you can detect ascites early on. Your doctor may ask history of blood transfusion and heaven alcohol consumption in order to diagnose if you have this condition. A physical examination may also be in need as well. If you have a chronic liver disease, there could be reddening in your palms and acute facial disorder in the muscle. Your doctor may also check your abdomen if it is tender to touch that may sometimes suggest an inflammation. If there is a sudden weight loss happening in your body then it could be an evidence of malignancy. The doctor may require you to take blood test so it could be verified if you have liver disease or kidney failure. If there are no ascites seen, then an ultrasound maybe done. A ct scan in the abdomen can also see if there are changes in the liver or spleen that maybe a tell tale sign that you have a cirrhosis. Always take note the problems in abdominal cavity maybe serious so it is wise to take time and do something about it.
