Bacteria Urinary Tract Infection
Preventive Measures to Keep Urinary Infections Away
Causes of urinary tract infection are many of which microorganisms, Chlamydia and Mycoplasma come in limelight. Such infections confine to urethra and reproductive system. This can be sexually transmitted hence both partners must undergo treatment. Enlarged prostate gland slow urine flow which results into further risk.
Kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra are key components of urinary system. Bacterial urinary tract infection hampers functioning of entire urinary system by affecting individual element kidneys that remove excess liquid and wastes from blood coming out through urination. Balance is maintained for stable health when salt and other substances in blood and hormone production and red blood cell formation are in process.
On an average healthy individual passes nearly a quart and half of urine everyday but urine amount varies depending on food intake consumed and types.
Bacterial infection, urinary tract infection can be cause of concern for entire urinary tract or specific part of it that depends upon intensity of infection. Uniqueness of urine lies in anti bacterial substances though it contains different fluids, salts and wastes of various kinds. Once bacteria mingle with them after entering into bladder or kidney continuous multiplication begins and infection occurs.
Bladder infection is commonest of all urinary tract infections known as cystitis. Pyelonephritis is serious complication which is major category of kidney infection and highly discomforting too. Interestingly such infections can be treated quicker and smoothly in which short course of antibiotics does miraculous effect.
Infection and Complication
Severity of urinary tract infection has made it a global issue. Perhaps it is the reason that nearly 8.3 million doctor visits are done each year to treat such infections. Women remain most vulnerable and prone to this disease due to complicate reasons not assessed yet. According to one research one out of five women faces urinary tract infection once in her lifetime. Interestingly this phenomenon is rare in men but in case it occurs its severity becomes chronic.
Role of Bacteria
Urinary tract infections occur due to specific bacteria named Escherichia coli which stay in colon. Bacteria enter inside urethra to multiply and infect whole system. When such infections confine to urethra it is medically denoted with urethritis but if it moves further in bladder to begin multiplication it is called cystitis.
Urinary tract infection should be traced, diagnosed and treated timely for better control. Lax attitude in prompt treatment might create confusing scenario. Once bacteria travels further until ureters and starts multiplying direct affect is seen in the kidneys. Pyelonephritis is medical terminology for that stage when kidneys are infected. Urine is examined for white and red blood cells besides bacterial aspect. Suitable antibacterial medicines prescribed to treat it are trimethoprim, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, amoxicillin, nitrofurantoin and ampicillin etc.
