Can Caffeine Cause High Blood Pressure

How does Caffeine affect Blood Pressure

Some people who are sensitive to caffeine are at a risk of developing high blood pressure. The relation between caffeine and blood pressure is found to be quite true. But can caffeine cause high blood pressure? The researches basically prove that though caffeine may have a short effect on blood pressure but it doesn’t have a long term effect.

Caffeine is known to cause an increase in blood pressure for a short period of time even if you don’t suffer from high blood pressure. The amount of caffeine in two to three cups of coffee is known to raise systolic pressure 3 to 14 millimetres in Hg.

This happens mainly because coffee blocks the hormone that helps to keep your arteries widened. The other cause is that caffeine causes an increase in adrenal gland to release more adrenaline which also leads to an increase in blood pressure.

Effects of Coffee

People who regularly drink coffee are known to possess a higher average blood pressure than those who do not drink coffee at all. But people who have a higher blood pressure should try to restrict or simply lessen the intake of coffee to just 20 mg per day. Always keep in mind to avoid coffee immediately after exercising or walking since it will naturally lead to an increase in blood pressure level.

If you want to check whether coffee increases your blood pressure or not the best thing is to check your blood pressure just 30 minutes after you have taken coffee or nay other caffeinated beverage. If your blood pressure is raised by around 5 to 10 points then surely you are sensitive to the effects of caffeine.

People who drink excessive amount of coffee may get hypertension but those who drink a minimum two to three cups are not at a risk. Soda pop without caffeine does not raise blood pressure.
