Stevia is an herb found in South Africa which regulates blood pressure and blood sugar. It can be used as a beverage sweetener. Apart from this, onion, ginger, leeks, ramps should also be used in food while cooking. They too have excellent properties.
In order to prevent diabetes keep all the white foods out of your plate. This include pasta, breads, white rice, potatoes since these are said to be high in simple carbohydrates which in turn increases the blood sugar level.
You also need to limit the intake of red meat if you are interested in preventing diabetes. Eat low fat meat and include fish in your diet. Include more of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet since they are rich in fibre. Try not to use canned fruits but if there is no other option possible than go for fruits where no sugar or any other additive is added. Try to have as much as fibre rich diet as it is known to lower down the blood sugar level. So have plenty of beans, oatmeal, raisins, nuts and whole grain foods.
