Swaddling a baby is a very essential thing which you need to do just after the baby is born. In fact it is something which has been going on since ages and even today doctors in the hospitals do the same.
Swaddling involves wrapping your baby in a soft piece of cloth once he is born. This is done to make the baby feel comfortable. Since over all these month’s baby has been lying in the womb of the mother and once he comes out he feels uncomfortable and that is why he starts to cry. Thus to make the baby feel as if he is still lying in the womb of the mother swaddling is necessary.

However there is a proper way in which swaddling is performed. You need to learn how to swaddle the baby. You should keep the blanket on a flat surface and fold just one corner of the blanket, and leave a flat surface at the top.
There on put the baby on the blanket but he should be facing the flat surface. When you do this, you should make it clear that the flat surface is below the neck of the baby. Wrap the blanket across the arms of the baby. The rest should be tucked behind the back of the baby.
Swaddling is considered to be of utmost importance for the new born baby, since it makes him feel warm, comfortable as well as gives him a feeling of safety.
Apart from that the soft skin of the baby is prevented from scratches or getting hurt. Though you can use any of the blankets which you can get for swaddling, but there are a few blankets which are meant specifically for this purpose. So when you go to buy ask the shopkeeper for the same.
Things to Remember
Swaddling is considered to be effective only for the first few weeks after the baby is born. If you continue doing so long after, there are chances that the growth of the baby might be hindered.
But remember that when you swaddle the baby the room should not be quite warm. When you have swaddled your baby make sure that all the corners of the blanket are properly snug so that there is no chance of baby getting slipped out of the blanket.
If the baby feels uncomfortable or cries in swaddling it is better that you do not force him in to swaddling.
