Indian food for diabetes can help in controlling it to a larger extent. But before you begin to prepare, you need to be aware of the fact that which Indian food is the best for diabetes. If taken regularly they can help a lot in living a normal and healthy life in spite of diabetes.

Living a life with diabetes can be really tough. It means changing your entire lifestyle including the food that you eat. Some of the Indian food is considered to be very effective in keeping diabetes under control.

Vegetarian Diet for Diabetes

A vegetarian diet is said to be one of the best for the diabetic patient. Various South Indian dishes are known for having a very low fat content in them, these may include-idli, dosa, sambhar so they make for an ideal diet for diabetic patient. These can be taken in breakfast or in the evening snacks. Porridge made from ragi is also a good food. If this is mixed with buttermilk it makes for a good diet and also helps in lowering blood sugar level.

Khichidi (mixture of rice and toor dal) too can work well with diabetes and can be taken. Indian roti is also considered to be quite fulfilling in itself and there is probably no substitute for it. Various vegetables like tomatoes, bitter guard, and lettuce can be prepared in dishes and eaten apart from other green leafy vegetables.

Diabetic recipe also includes a number of soups made from various vegetables which should be taken on a regular basis. Vegetables like cabbage, spinach, celery can be made either into a soup or prepared as a dish. For salads you can have cucumber, capsicum finely sliced and it can be taken with a pinch of salt and lime added to it.

Fenugreek (methi) is said to be a good cure for diabetes. You can make chutney with it and this can act as a supplementary diet for you. You can also eat them as sprouts or else mix them in wheat flour to make chapattis.
Excessive salt need to be avoided at all cost. So whenever you prepare the meal make sure to keep salt intake in check. The same holds true for sugar as well. Instead of sugar, you can opt for honey, jaggery which can act as its substitute.

Non Vegetarian Diet

The non vegetarians should try to stay away from red meat as much as possible. Also decrease the consumption of eggs and other poultry products. Rather try to opt for a healthy vegetarian diet. But you can continue to use fish which is a good source of essential oils.

You can start using sprouts also as a part of your meal, if prepared with various spices they too appear to be nice in taste. You also need to increase the intake of turmeric powder and tender mango leaves. Remember that by following a proper food chart you are in a better position to control your diabetes.
