Pain in Shoulder Joints

Shoulder Joint Pain Treatment

There are many reasons why a person experiences pain in the shoulder region. Some are caused by traumas from accidents, degenerative diseases such as arthritis and rheumatism, high-impact exercises and activities, and inappropriate body posture.

Whatever the reason may be, it is always necessary to seek a doctor’s advice.

Pain in Shoulder Joints

Shoulder dislocation and pain is probably one of the most common medical reasons why many people go to orthopedic specialists since this part of the body is vulnerable to traumas, accidents, and injuries.

This part of the human body is made of three bones, the collarbone (clavicle), shoulder blade (scapula), and upper arm bone (humerus). In spite of the fact that the shoulder consists of highly-movable joints, this is still vulnerable to injuries and dislocations due to its design where the ball of the humerus is relatively larger than its joining sockets.

There are various reasons why people feel pain on the body area, one of these is a result from some underlying diseases in liver, heart, gallbladder, or neck. If the person feels tenderness, throbbing, or piercing pain in the collarbone and shoulder blade, it is most likely that this had originated from the neck area.

In such cases where the pain is becoming intolerable, it is best to seek a physician’s advice in order to prevent the condition from worsening.

Another cause for painful shoulder joints is some degenerative illnesses which can result to break down of ligaments and tissues. Examples of these diseases are arthritis and rheumatism. In addition, this pain may also be a caused from previous accidents which had dislocated or damaged the shoulder joints.

Orthopedics specialists advice patients who experience pain in the shoulder to avoid doing high-impact exercise programs and sports which may further aggravate their underlying conditions. Furthermore, these doctors advice their patients to avoid repetitive movement on shoulder joints as long as the problem has not yet been properly addressed.

There are medical tests for people who are suffering from painful shoulder joints, these are X-ray; Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is a non-invasive procedure where doctors can see cross-sectional image of the shoulder; anthrogram which is a procedure where a doctor would inject a fluid from the patient’s shoulder and put it under X-ray machine to reveal the outline of the shoulder to pinpoint the injured and damaged part.

Due to its framework design, the structure of the shoulder region is susceptible to different directions of dislocation. Once this happens, the patient will usually experience tremendous pain on the dislocated area and will eventually feel numbness, tenderness, and weakness. The reason for this is that the shoulder’s tendons and ligaments are tearing and corroding which may result to even greater problems such as nerve and tissue damage. In cases like these, it is very important to immediately seek a doctor.
